Students'Union

The Student's Union consists of elected members from the student community. It comprises of the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, General Secretary, Arts Club Secretary, Magazine Editor, Sports Secretary, two University Union Councillors and Class Representatives. Staff Advisors are there to guide them. The Oath taking ceremony of the College Union members was held on 3rd September 2019. All the newly elected office bearers took the oath. The Principal congratulated the team. Ms.Sandra K.S., Former Chairperson delivered the felicitation and Ms.Greeshma A.U. made a reply speech.

The year 2020-’21, posed serious challenges and opened up new opportunities to the academic world. The world was pushed to go digital and the education field witnessed massive changes in the way of teaching and learning. The College Union of Morning Star Home Science College could not leave behind any of the celebrations or events by highlighting the pandemic as an excuse. As Go Digital was the new normal, we also shifted our event platforms to the virtual world. For the students it was a new learning experience, experimenting with the digital world-shooting, editing etc. An official Youtube channel for the College Union was started and all activities were shared with the student community through this platform. The College Union organized a bundle of programmes digitally this academic year.

 

Trirang- A dance tribute to Mother India on the theme ‘Patriotism’, was compiled by the students of various departments, in connection with the Independence day celebrations. An online  PowerPoint competition on the topic ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ was also conducted in connection with the Independence day celebration. Theresa L.Perumayan (III B.Com.), Ann Mariya Joy(II B.Com.) and Meenakshi Binoy (II B.Sc.FCS) bagged the first, second, and third positions.

 

Aravam 2020-Onam celebration was also held through the online platform from August 30-September 1, 2020. An official greeting video comprising the wishes from the Principal as well as distinguished personalities from the film field was compiled and posted on the Youtube channel. Various competitions like Onam Prashnothari, Thumbappoove –the Onappattu competition, Pookalamatsaram, Onam Selfie Contest with Family and Malayali Manka competitions were organized digitally.

 

Online Teachers' Day -Every year the management, staff, and students of Morning Star Home Science College celebrate Teacher’s day to mark the birthday of great academician and philosopher, Dr.Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan with much enthusiasm. But in the present situation to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, we celebrated Teacher’s day through an online platform on 5th September 2020. The College Union made a video as a tribute to retired teachers and the entire faculty of our college and uploaded it on YouTube. The various departments of our college conducted online meetings to express their gratitude to retired teachers and the teaching faculty of the department. The staff and students retired teachers and alumnae participated in the meeting.

 

Tribute to Mahakavi Akkitham Namboothiri - A glowing tribute to Mahakavi Akkitham Namboothiri,in the form of a video, was prepared by the Union, in association with the Department of Languages on 17 October 2020.

 

Keralapiravi Celebrations- The Union organized a poster completion on the topic –Keralam 2050 and an essay competition on the topic ‘Keralam Coronakku Shesham’. Students actively participated in both programmes.

 

Tribute to Smt. Sugathakumari - In connection with the sudden demise of the environmentalist and Malayalam poet Smt. Sugathakumari, a tribute video on her contributions to the social and literary world of Kerala was prepared by the Union in association with the Department of Languages on 24 December 2020. The tribute video was circulated among the students through Youtube Channel.

 

Kriss Kringle 2020 was organized digitally as part of the Christmas celebration. Department-wise Christmas Carol competition, My Crib –The crib-making competition, Christmas-themed Bottle Art competition, and Twinkle, Twinkle Litle Star –star-making competitions were organized.
